"We met with the Jewish communities of Rabat, Fez, Meknes and Marrakesh. In Rabat, an official
reception was arranged with the Chief Rabbi of Rabat and the Jews of the community. Everyone
stood around the table, which was laden with exotic, delicious foods. No one spoke. The Moroccan
Jews, including the Rabbi, only spoke French and Arabic. Suddenly a young Jewish Moroccan
student, who obviously spoke Hebrew, began singing "Hevenu Shalom Aleichem." We all
joined hands, started singing, and danced around the table. The thousands of years of
separation vanished, and we again were AM ISRAEL.

"In Marrakesh, Mr. Kadosh, one of the leaders of this Jewish community, invited us
to his home for dinner (all 60 of us). Much to our surprise, we were greeted with
horse drawn carriages sent to transport us to Mr. Kadosh's home. It was an
unbelievable experience.

"This is the kind of reception you will find in Morocco, from a Jewish
community that we didn't even know existed."
